My Beliefs

I am a Born Again Evangelical Christian with a Wesleyan bent. At different times, I have attended Nazarene, Wesleyan, Pentecostal and Interdenominational Churches in my life. I have Friends in all those churches and I have fond friends in the Salvation Army and Baptist churches as well. I felt called to be a Minister so I spent 1 year full time in a Nazarene Bible College and 3 plus years doing night school at a Nazarene bible school held in a basement of a local Nazarene church in Toronto.

I did go in that direction but my marriage blew up and so, I went into construction. I also helped with starting a church at that time and used to play piano in the church and later did work with children but never went any farther and stuck to online work for God.

My Focus here is Reconciliation with God and of course a focus on deepening that relationship with him that leads to love for others. I tend to get into Science and Evolution and some theology. I show how Evolution is a Hoax and how Science is the study of what God has made. Its my desire that people don’t miss God while getting religion. I also help prove his existence and help people sort out their faith.
My theology is bent Nazarene but as I have read the bible more times than I can count, so my bent is just Biblical. I have gained a few insights that conflict with both the Nazarene and Pentecostal beliefs systems, but I am still a salvationist like them. I have an issue with their characterization of the second work of grace. My theology otherwise is very much in keeping with all the above churches. I have some big reservations about 5 point Calvinism. What you need to know about me is I believe salvation is a act of God, not something earned or worked to get. The Purpose for us seeking out Religion and God is so we can restore our relationship with God. Works cannot make a person spiritually alive. Works are the fruit of a changed heart. Words cannot make your spirit come alive. I think you can loose your salvation if you reject God and have contempt for him. If you trample his work intentionally and separate yourself, you are toast. You can alienate yourself from God by the things you do and your heart condition which is seen by what you say and believe. (Romans 8) Understanding Contempt for God and for others is a big step in Human development and part of the salvation puzzle.
Another point about Pentecostals; I don’t believe tongues is a modern day sign showing that you have the spirit. (It was a sign then, that the spirit came on you and you got saved. (then)) The Idea of a second work of grace called the baptism of the Holy Spirit is a wrong conclusion derived from the book of Acts. Its my belief that we are baptized in the spirit at our spiritual birth as seen in Acts 2 , but tongues are not an ongoing evidence of such an event of salvation (that was then to prove the covenant had a change.) but they were at the time a sign and an effective way for God to say to the church that, they the church now could get the spirit and not jsut the Sanhedrin. Saved people would get the spirit. God was restoring people. The spirit is given to you at salvation, then and now. Speaking in Tongues at the time was a, ‘ prophecy fulfilled’, marking the coming of the new covenant. Back then, people received the gift of tongues at salvation when the spirit was given. (but not everyone.) the Ethiopian simply was baptized. Others received tongues later when it was offered by the Apostles. Now, 2000 years later almost nobody gets real tongues at conversion. Its possible that some do after but I seriously doubt those who claim these botched attempts of it. It turns out to be gibberish not languages as they had.
Adding to my beliefs I want to say, I believe God DOES use the gifts of the spirit His Spirit, which is Him, living in you, to do anything he wants to get done if you are willing. Obviously you can see he made the world very complex. So, its clear that God will also have some complex plans that include you. We need to surrender to him if we want to be a part of his program. While we live our lives we need to have him as boss. This is a big part of the focus on this site. God rightly owns the joint, our lives, this world. So if He needs you to speak in tongues, to be a prophet or preach great, but if not, don’t lie to yourself and pretend. People do all kinds of things in the name of God without God in it. Just be His, draw close to him, read the bible, pray, seek his will be bendable and He will use your tender heart.

I also did not complete the theology about the Sanhedrin. God transferred power and authority from them to himself. He essentially He took over the kingdom once in their hands. God is on the throne himself now and his spirit in us. The Church are members of his body, part of him. We are subservient spirit filled leaders, arms and legs (Romans 12). The Idea of a 70 spirit filled Sanhedrin is moot. Church Dictatorship is wrong. The kingdom is taken from them and given to others…. that is what the keys of the kingdom are about in Matthew… The promise was to give the spirit to everyone, So some leaders need to get off their high horse. Everyone can know God personally, have his spirit and have the very same bible. Some get far to bossy which itself to me is a sin and carnal in nature showing they are not so high on Gods books and all knowing about his tender spirit willing to sacrifice for others and be last in a crowd than first… Now, back to a closer look at salvation…

To be clear. I believe when someone is born again they get the spirit of God and that makes them alive and gives them the gift. Without his spirit they are the walking dead. The spirit is more than just gifts. Thee Gift of the Holy spirit is God within you. So that changes everything. Believing things does not make your spirit alive. Belonging to a church does not make your spirit alive from the dead. Dead is dead. You cannot do a bunch of good things for the Poor and Poof your spirit is alive. God has to make it alive. And that is the new Way. After you are restored then you walk in newness of life.

Salvation is special. Isaiah 1 talks about how God Rejected Israel and Judah. It was a real disappointment for God when Adam and Eve Sinned. It broke his Heart when He had to wipe the world away and just save Noah and his family. Gods heart breaks as a Fathers heart breaks for his children.

the Gospel story of Salvation is about God coming in Human flesh, to die a death, to be punished for sins you and I did, replacing us as the guilty party. He takes judgment for us. His rules condemned us, and he in a “grand act” stood as the condemned on the cross and bled and died. , so that anyone who would return to him repenting, could restore their relationship, sin free, forgiven washed by that blood spilled for us. And then we get the spirit of God back into our hearts and then we are alive again. Then we have eternal life. Service and good actions come out of that. They cant make that happen. Gods death plus nothing is the payment for our sins. You cant work your way, pay a bit and God pay the rest. Jesus paid it all. that is why its the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Some forget that this is not just a gift, but there is a requirement to return. This is not welfare with no strings. The Contempt for God must be given up. You Return to God and you start on the development of that relationship again. The salvation given is so that you are freed and permitted to return and live for him. Salvation is a one time event, but Son-ship is a life long thing that leads in a life of communion with your God, prayer, bible reading, service, love and adventure.

Now you know the most important section of my beliefs. And You might not have known the gospel before or what was required of you or how to end up in heaven and how to fix things with God. Now you know, pretty much.. But, Now a bit about me. That was a lot to soak in for the moment.

I am a Builder. I do renovations, Bathrooms, Basements, Kitchens, Windows, Decks, Painting, Tiling etc. I was Divorced many Years ago. I have two great children. I am in construction and did not go into full time Ministry. I believe that all of us are Laity and all of us are called to minister. I believe Pastors are Laity put in a position of leadership by other laity but they are no more Godly than the next guy. God restores us. We have no greater standing than another. Many People do not act the same way in how they treat others. Its time we realize we are no better than the next guy.

I have been a Christian for almost 40 years and came out of a Non Christian Home. Its my belief being a christian is a ministry in and of itself. I have been very active online sharing the gospel since 2005 . As you can imagine it has taken a significant portion of my life to do this work. Part of it is just enjoying God in the process and knowing him better.

At Church over the Years I have contributed Physically, Financially and Spiritually. I have been involved in Playing the Piano, Teaching Youth, starting a Church, helping with property maintenance and going on a missing trip or two. While I help others, like most serious Christians do, I wouldn’t consider my works worth much. I am not saved by my works, I am saved by the mercy and grace of God afforded to me at my salvation forward. Works are nothing more than a sprinkling of philanthropy in an effort to love as God called us to love. Still, I think its been my mission to help people in some way on a ongoing basis, its what God calls people to do generally and it is an outworking of his spirit in us. I believe everyone should be an active Christian in the service of others. Its what comes out of a saved heart. If you don’t you likely are not saved.

Let me hit this from another angle. I also Believe its is absolutely necessary for people to be born again. Its no a term every church uses. But its a Term Jesus uses, commanding that we must be Born again John 3:3. If you are not born again you won’t go to heaven, and your spirit is not made alive.

I believe water baptism is a symbol of salvation happening. The act of baptism itself does not make you saved. I don’t think getting baptized is an absolute necessity but its strongly suggested as a statement of faith. Baptism is telling others what you have committed yourself too. The symbolism is a reflection of what has happened; that is, that you have died to yourself and gave your life to Jesus Christ and he has made you alive spiritually. One must have their relationship with God restored to have Gods spirit, and they must renounce their lives and commit to following Jesus Christ. Going into the water is a symbol of you dying. And you coming out of the water is a symbol of Jesus making you alive spiritually. Jesus must King to get Gods gift of life; that is: the grace of Christs blood being poured on us, to cleanse us from sin. and then his spirit, that makes you alive. And God promises to give us a new heart. Its a big deal. I think that all happened to me and must happen to anyone who wants to go to heaven. And without a restored relationship with God your toast.

Some churches teach that if you are baptized, the physical act of doing it, makes you born again. That is a lie. It gives people a false security while they may not have even repented or gave up contempt of God in their hearts. They may do it simply for the duty handed to them by family or the church while actually not seeking to restore a relationship with God. They check it off as a thing to get done and poof they think they are saved, born again and heaven bound and there is nothing more further from the truth. Water does not save you.

I believe in the work Jesus did on the Cross. Jesus died a brutal death. Jesus suffered and was a substitution on my behalf; Jesus instead of me/you/us. Jesus died so we could be forgiven; he took our sins and became sin for us so we could become the righteousness of God. This is called the Atonement. And when God bequeaths this forgiveness and we repent, he gives us his spirit. Poof! We become alive spiritually and are immediately christian and immediately adopted and immediately given right standing with God. This then gives us an Inheritance of eternal life; that is after our physical life is over, that is, IF we continue to follow Jesus Christ. (that was a repeat so I could reword it and be clearer.)

Salvation through Jesus Christ

1 John 2:2 King James Version (KJV) And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
Ephesians 1:7 King James Version (KJV) In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
Romans 6:23 King James Version (KJV) 23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Contempt & Sin must be repented Of:
John 3:14-21 King James Version (KJV)
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

The Church

I believe Romans 12 as well as 1 Corinthians 12 describes the body of believers as the body of Christ. The spirit is given to all of us, not just the leadership and leadership is just the laity doing leadership as seen in Acts 6 , Ephesians 4 and Acts 14:23.

Titus 1 among other scriptures like Romans 8 which show its about the spirit working in all of us as a community of capable people. Matthew 20:25-28

Change of Lifestyle

Some People have Lost their way. Jesus said to be a follower of his you had to follow him. Jesus said to enter the strait gate and to go the narrow way. Jesus said that its easier for a rich man to go through an eye of a needle than for him to enter the kingdom of God. Repentance is lost on some peoples hearts. The Term Repentance has fallen on deaf ears. Those people will not enter the kingdom of God now or in the age to come. Unless you repent you will likewise perish. To be Saved/Born again, we must have a converted soul, a new heart of flesh, and be on the road of Love, good deeds, Sanctification and heart holiness. While our salvation, that is our forgiveness by Christs blood is free, it does not give us license to sin. Contempt and rejection of Gods principles will get you kicked out of the kingdom. Not helping the homeless and suffering will also get you kicked out of the kingdom voiding your born again condition. Ask Jesus. Matthew 25:41-42 And placating God trying to get salvation without actually giving your heart and life to him will end your life in destruction.

Christianity is not about bitterness but about Joy and Peace and Love, gaining new spiritual life, reconciliation with God and restoration. Still, there is a seriousness to being a christian. Its about a better path, better living and humble service in love for one another. Its not just about rules. Its about a new life, A new life away from a Old life.

Ezekiel 36:26-27 King James Version (KJV) 26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
Romans 12:1-2 King James Version (KJV) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Now its your turn. What say you? Will you be born again? Will you return to God?
